Del features on Doggie Nation's Infographic!

I've got a famous pup!

Del is representing for the Rotties on this infographic!

Last week, Doggie Nation asked if they could use one of Del's Instagram pics for this, and I of course said yes. That's one pretty mean football team! I have to say, Del is probably the best middle linebacker I know :)

Giving Pit Bulls a Second Chance

I saw this infographic over at The Lazy Pitbull and felt like I should share. After watching Louis Theroux's new documentary on Sunday night (did anyone see it?), Pitbulls have been fresh on my mind all week.

In the documentary we saw the daily life of a dog rescue centre in L.A. Now, there wasn't just Pitbulls in the centre, in fact there were many breeds. But the ratio of Pitbulls to other breeds was clear to see.

We have the same problem in the UK, but with Staffies. Battersea Dogs Home states that around 80% of dogs that come through their doors are Staffordshire Bull Terriers. Probably the biggest cause of this is the media. At the moment, newspapers like The Daily Mail seem to be on a witch hunt for these 'ferocious' dogs, including Staffies and Pitbulls. Constant articles about dog bites and people being harmed by dogs are changing people's perceptions about these breeds, and it needs to stop.

Dogs, like those featured in the Louis Theroux documentary are being put down because 'space' is needed for other dogs. Staffies are given to shelters probably because people assume they are vicious. Anyone who knows about dogs knows that these stereotypes are just that, full of false sweeping generalisations.

So, that's why I wanted to share this:

I can relate to this because Rottweilers can be on the end of breed discrimination as well. To put it bluntly, it makes my blood boil.

You can find the documentary in question here.

Considering a Dog for Christmas?

I saw this post on Dakota's Den and just had to share, especially after posting my post about Press Paws last week.

If you're thinking about getting a pup this Christmas, there is a LOT to consider. Take a look at this infographic to see if you think you'd be able to make the commitment...

Slim Doggy on Pet Obesity

I'm a bit late to the party with this, but thought I'd share anyway, so apologies if you've already seen it!

This great infographic comes from Slim Doggy, a great site about how to keep your pooch at a healthy weight...

Source

The stand out fact for me on this is how a lean dog is likely to live 15% longer than overweight one. So it's extra important to keep weight down so we can have all the time we can with our dogs.

Also, Jen from My Brown Newfies published this great post with tips on how to keep your dogs at a healthy weight, which is well worth a read.

I hope everyone is enjoying their week- it's nearly Friday- hang on in there!

Finding a Dog in a Hot Car

I saw this post on Dakota's Den and had to share.

I've seen loads of infographics about how to keep your dogs cool recently, but none about what to do if you come across a dog in a car that could get overheated and come into some serious trouble.

Infographic from Pet Finder

We've been really lucky over the past week here in the UK- the weather has been fab, but Del has really been struggling in the heat. I think it's important to educate dog owners on dogs and heat, but think it's just as important to know what to do if you find a dog in a car.

Pet or Pest?

Leading on from my last post, I thought I'd share this infographic with you from MoneySupermarket. All pets have accidents- albeit, Del's wasn't an accident- and can go through the 'chewing' phase as puppies.

We've been really lucky with Del. He peeled off a bit of wallpaper in the bedroom once and has chewed a few of my shoes up, but other than that he's been fairly good.

Has your dog ever ruined anything in your home/garden?

Also, how long does it take for you to forgive them? It usually takes me about 30 seconds to give in and give Del a cuddle :)

How Not to Greet a Dog

I saw this over on Adventures of a Dog Mom and had to share too.

I'm probably guilty of getting over excited and greeting a dog wrong in some circumstances, and it's only really since we've had Del which I understand the importance of greeting a dog in a way which isn't threatening or frightening for them.

Image from Doggie Drawings.

Now I come into contact with lots of dogs on our walks, it's just as important for the owner to know how to approach a dog as it is to train your dog how to behave around other pups.

I think this is a great graphic and hope it can teach people a thing or two about how to approach dogs they've never met before.
